How often to get a massage
I recently came across another study of the affects of massage on pain levels.
To the surprise of virtually no one, the results were positive: that pain in the neck and shoulders was reduced with regular massages. At this point, I wonder even why we do these studies anymore.
The more interesting point in this study was the affect of NOT receiving massage. In this study, recipients experienced 30 minute targeted sessions every 2 weeks. Their pain levels reduced from an average of 7 on the 1-10 pain scale to a 3.
What is more interesting is that after the study, a follow up survey was conducted. After 4 months of not receiving regular massage, recipients reported pain levels similar to the beginning of the study.
What does this mean? Massage is maintenance. Often we begin our interest in massage by enjoying a vacation treat, in attempting to recover from a particularly stressful time, or to seek relief from pain caused by muscle tension. Surely you-just as I-have seen results after your session. You feel good for weeks or maybe months, and you need to go back again.
What I hope you’ll discover, however, is that you can feel that good more often, and get more for your money, if you make massage part of your self-care routine.
So how often do you need massage? Well. The short-and maybe not so convenient answer is-the more the better. And when it comes to realistic and ideal frequency, it depends on the individual.
Common consensus in massage school was once a month. Certainly this fits well into a health model. That being said. I have some clients who do great with once a month, some who come every two and could spread out further, and some who wouldn’t be able to move if they waited that long.
Ultimately, try and see. Schedule your services 4 weeks out. If you’re feeling tense on the day you come in, schedule your next session in 3 weeks instead. Once you’ve found your sweet spot, schedule them regularly. Our system makes it very easy to do so.
And to aid in this pursuit: packages are available. The savings will help encourage you to come on a regular basis, as the package expires after a period of time.

I look forward to a healthier you!
